For 35 years, Oceanit’s Resilient & Sustainable (RiSE) team of coastal engineers, planners, scientists, and project managers have been dedicated to solving the unique and diverse challenges facing coastal communities in Hawai’i, other Pacific nations, and beyond.

The coastal environment produces challenges beyond the design and building of coastal structure. Oceanit has built a reputation for excellence in science, disruptive technology, and human-centered approaches when dealing with hydrodynamics, marine ecosystems, morphodynamics, and climate. We are dedicated to bringing this innovation to bear, delivering resilient and sustainable shoreline engineering, while honoring the communities along those shores. We are pioneering inventive technologies to solve novel coastal issues where traditional approaches no longer fit.

WHAT WE DO

For decades, sea level rise (SLR), increasingly strong wave action, coastal flooding, and shoreline development have contributed to critical issues for coastal communities. As our climate evolves, episodic coastal erosion around the world has become more commonplace.  Changes have resulted in shoreline recession, beach narrowing, loss of sandy beach areas, continuous beach system, and sand dunes, reductions in public access to oceanfronts, and increased risk of natural hazards to people, oceanfront resources, buildings, infrastructure, and amenities.

From beach erosion mitigation to 3D artificial reef construction, Oceanit’s engineers are developing responsible, sustainable solutions for our communities and marine ecosystems. Our teams work on a range of projects such as beach restorations, shoreline erosion mitigation, coastal process characterization studies, shoreline construction permitting, harbor and outfall design, the repair of seawalls, and historic shoreline protection measures.

Aside from addressing existing concerns, Oceanit takes a proactive approach to identifying overlooked or potential future problems. The iBeach system for erosion mitigation and beach protection, for example, allows for persistent, cost-effective monitoring and analysis of coastal health over time. Our engineers also utilize numerical, physical, and augmented reality models to replicate dynamic coastal processes, including the impacts of sea-level rise on the shoreline
