NoME is an Anthronoetic, or human-style, cognitive engine with a linguistics-centered approach to strong artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence has made great strides in the 21st Century; integrating algorithms with big data to infer answers for critical strategic, societal, and scientific problems. Oceanit’s Anthronoetic (human-like) artificial intelligence is the next generation of sophistication: an AI designed to think in a human style so as ultimately to function as an artificial general intelligence. Oceanit is actively developing this next-generation technology in a system named ‘NoME’: the Noetic Mathematical Engine.

Statistical machine learning is the most popular and successful paradigm in the current-generation of AI, and Oceanit itself has deployed deep neural networks in many applications and demonstrated state-of-the-art levels of performance. However, some of the deepest problems in science and society cannot in principle be solved by machine learning. Hence, to transcend the ML paradigm, Oceanit is developing its anthronoetic NoME.

Oceanit’s anthronoetic AI focuses on natural language processing, a linguistic-centric approach designed to think in a “human style”. This unique approach utilizes Chomskyan linguistic theory and analogy algorithms to create not only an answer or prediction, but more importantly, meaning and explanations. In other words, this additional explanatory level enables NoME to demonstrate how it derived its conclusion.

Thus, NoME answers “What?”, but more importantly, “Why?”

These explanations will enable a user to understand both what the NoME output was and how NoME arrived at that output. Through this approach, we hope to replicate the human thought process in computers and surpass the current, big data approaches of neural networks.

The general intelligence of NoME can be parametrized so as to be applied across a variety of specific domains such as:

  • Artificial Universal Intelligence (AUI) – Artificial Intelligence for inferring and explaining the structure, meaning, and mode of computation from arbitrary data. The first application of AUI is G-NoME: Explaining/predicting RNA folding and primary genetic structure for applications for synthetic biology, RNA therapies, immunology, cancer treatments, and more.
  • Virtual Augmentative Assistants – Human-like AI to solve problems, create explanations, and enhance user decision making in complex scenarios such as war games and scientific research and beyond by literally augmenting the mind of the user.
  • Strong Cybersecurity AI Laboratory (CSAIL)- Artificial intelligence for malware detection, ransomware neutralization, cyber-physical system security, and predicting/preventing cyberwarfare tactics.
  • MIND-MELD – Mentalistic Insights on Neurophysiological Design (MIND) is Oceanit’s revolutionary theory of how the mind/brain works. This theory, formulated as an artificial intelligence system, is realized in the MIND Electromagnetic Localization Device (MELD)—Oceanit’s revolutionary sensor to record electrical-magnetic neural activity for integration into Brain-Computer Interfaces.
